Showcase
This is a showcase that exemplifies some of the work I completed throughout my Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program at Michigan State University. As an educator, I am constantly learning about new skills, tools, and methods that assist me with providing powerful learning experiences for my students. All of the work I have accomplished through my MAET program has helped me to grow into a stronger educator and leader. I have broken my work up into three categories: student-centered learning, technology, and leadership and collaboration. In the student-centered learning category, you will see how I put students' needs first when designing learning experiences, and you will observe how I effectively utilize technology to enhance those experiences. In the technology section, I present a new technology I gained experience with and how that tool enhanced a lesson. You will also experience an online math module I created and implemented in the classroom. Finally, the leadership and collaboration category expresses how I demonstrate leadership qualities while successfully working and creating with peers and colleagues. I hope you enjoy viewing pieces of my educational journey!
*You will view some work I completed under my maiden name, Rebecca Garland*
Student-Centered Learning |
This artifact exhibits how I foster my own creativity and allow students to cultivate creativity of their own. It also shows how I incorporate new tools into my classroom to enhance learning experiences. I applied seven cognitive tools, perceiving, patterning, abstracting, embodied thinking, modeling, playing, and synthesizing, to my literacy workshop to promote creativity.

Technology |
This math website shows my skills in creating online content. My course is consistent and I was purposeful with my pedagogical decisions. The math module is grounded in the idea of demonstrating mastery before moving on, and having an online course makes this model more manageable and easier to accomplish. It also supports individualized instruction and allows students to take ownership of their learning.

Leadership and Collaboration |
This website attests that I can successfully work with a group of my peers or colleagues to create something. I worked with three other students from MSU to crack the question can failure be as powerful a learning mode as success. We held multiple online meeting where we discussed our ideas and brainstormed ways to present our work. We all took on leadership roles for the project but stayed united as a team. We collaboratively created a website that includes our problem, research, surveys, and solutions.
