CEP 810 - Teaching Understanding with Technology Dr. Ronald Houtman and Emily Stone |
I began my educational journey with CEP 810 and this course helped my professional practice to evolve. It strengthened my understanding that I need to leverage technology in purposeful ways to enhance lessons and support experiences that enrich student learning. I also became more aware of my Professional Learning Network and it grew substantially. The Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework was introduced to me during this course. I learned that it’s not so much about integrating technology in the classroom but INNOVATING with technology.

CEP 811 - Adapting Innovative Technology to Education Stacey Schuh and Melissa White |
CEP 811 provided me with knowledge and skills that help me to repurpose and utilize technology to represent content. I gained experience with a maker kit, Makey Makey, and a visual programming platform, Scratch, and I created a collaborative and interactive lesson that utilizes these new technologies. I also learned more about "Maker Education" and how students can demonstrate what they learned in multiple ways. This course encouraged me to embrace my "Maker" talents and helped me foster creativity within my students.

I explored multiple pedagogical theories in CEP 800 and was asked to create my own personal theory of learning at the beginning of the course and then reflect and build upon it at the end of the course. I developed a deeper understanding of ideologies of learning and my personal theory became stronger and more supported. I also gained knowledge on how to effectively achieve a goal by creating new habits. This course helped me to appreciate that many factors influence the construction of knowledge. I need to be aware of these factors and make sure my students are active, engaged, and motivated in the learning process.

CEP 812 - Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice Edith Erickson and William Marsland |
Passion, curiosity, questioning, and technology were the big themes of CEP 812 and a lot of my learning was inspired by Warren Berger’s (2014) book, A More Beautiful Question. It motivated me to have my students engage in more questioning and to embrace the unknown and mistakes as powerful learning experiences. My classroom developed into a safe environment where students felt supported and comfortable when asking questions and exploring their passions and curiosities. I also worked collaboratively with peers to find a solution to the question can failure be as powerful a learning mode as success? We conducted much research, created surveys, and received feedback from our communities of practice. We then created a website to present and analyze our findings.

CEP 818 - Creativity in Teaching and Learning Cui Cheng and Carmen Richardson |
In CEP 818 I learned that embracing and fostering my own creative ideas encourages my students to cultivate creativity of their own. By reading Robert and Michele Root-Bernstein’s (1999) book, Sparks of Genius, I explored seven cognitive tools, perceiving, patterning, abstracting, embodied thinking, modeling, playing, and synthesizing, that support creativity. I applied these tools to my literacy workshop block to help create stronger and more engaging learning experiences for my students. It was a great experience to view a familiar content area through multiple creative lenses and to witness students' engagement levels and creativity soar.

CEP 815 - Technology and Leadership Spencer Greenhalgh and Dr. Aman Yadav |
A big motivating factor to obtain a Master of Arts in Educational Technology degree was to be viewed as a leader in the area of technology and CEP 815 helped me develop the skills to do that. I learned about different leadership styles and took on the persona of each style. I also engaged in understanding the ethical and social implications of technology integration. I researched "thorny issues" in education, like flipped classrooms and the effective use of technology, and took on the role of a technology leader to create a vision statement promoting meaningful integration of technology tools. I also worked collaboratively with a peer to create a professional development presentation on how to effectively use three different tech tools to support learning goals.

CEP 820 - Teaching Students Online Dr. Anne Heintz and Carmen Richardson |
During CEP 820 I constructed and implemented an online math course for my third grade classroom. I learned valuable tools and strategies when building content and I was very aware of the pedagogical decisions I was making when constructing my course. I created a blended learning environment with a goal to have students take ownership of their learning. My course is grounded in the idea of demonstrating mastery before moving on and it supports individualized instruction. Creating an online module proved to be a great experience that I think every educator should have.

TE 846 - Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners Marliese Peltier |
TE 846 focused on the importance of providing differentiated literacy instruction. I read about best practices and applied my learning to complete a Literacy Learner Analysis Project. I worked one-on-one with a literacy learner and created a literacy profile of the child by developing an understanding of her home and family routines related to text, her literacy history, and her motivation and engagement for literacy. I then assessed the child to better understand her literacy strengths and needs and created a series of lessons to address her specific literacy needs. This course helped me use assessment data to create targeted lessons.

CEP 822 - Approaches to Educational Research Cui Cheng, Ming Lei, and June Westdal |
CEP 822 provided insight on how important it is for an educator to be able to read and interpret educational research. I learned about different research methods and gained much experience with conducting research, critiquing articles, and working in Excel. I developed a research proposal that focused on the topic of collaborative problem solving in elementary education. Being both a consumer and producer of educational research is a central part of my lifelong learning journey.

CEP 807 - Capstone Portfolio Course Brittany Dillman, Aric Gaunt, Sarah Keenan, and Dr. Matthew Koehler |
My MAET educational journey concluded with CEP 807 where I was given the opportunity to reflect upon my experiences and knowledge gained in the MAET program. I created this online portfolio to showcase my accomplishments and my passion for lifelong learning. This was a very reflective course and I collaborated with my peers weekly by giving and receiving constructive feedback. It was fulfilling to see the positive growth I have made as an educator and a learner because of my participation in the MAET program.
